What are some interesting historical facts on native american indians?

Many people don’t realize that Native Americans were in various forms of development. Some, like the Illini, were considered barbaric by other tribes. They would prostitute their wives in exchange for food. Others, like the Iroquois, had a system of government spanning several Native American tribes, and ran it based on a document that our Constitution is based on. In early frontier America, the only difference between Cherokee cabins and European cabins was that Cherokee cabins had a hole in the center of the roof to let out smoke, while Europeans had chimneys. The Cherokee were better off this way, though–the chimneys tended to catch fire and burn down the cabin, while the Cherokee cabins were fine.
