What are some innovative ways to use satellite communications?
There are many innovative ideas out there already. GPS has to be one of the greatest developments from satellite technology. There are still many applications to be developed using that. The great advantage is that it is free, a gift from the US to the world that I can certainly appreciate. There is a need in the environmental monitoring market for better remote communications. This applies to oceanography, weather, crops, floods, bushfires, icebergs, animals etc. While such systems have been developed, and are used, the common thread with satellite technology is the cost. The greatest innovation would be some way of reducing the cost of communicating through a satellite. It seems this is related to lowering launch costs or extending the deployment time in some way. There have been admirable achievements in all areas, but the lowered cost would open up the field for new users. Go for it!
