What are some indicators that a denture needs to be relined?
Excessive weight loss or recent extractions cause shrinkage of bone and gum tissue. A reline will result in a better fitting denture that lost its retention. Denture adhesives are not recommended because prolonged use can mask infections and cause bone loss in the jaw. Likewise, a poorly fitting denture, which causes constant irritation over a long period, may contribute to the development of sores and tumors. If your dentures begin to feel loose or cause pronounced discomfort, see your denturist immediately.
