What are some ideas for activities to fill the space?
So many things have been tried over the years space would not permit listing them all here. This guide is full of recent examples and hundreds more are listed on the webpages at www.itwmc.gov.uk Activities that work well are: street theatre, jazz bands, farmers markets, activities for children (the road as a blackboard for chalk art is especially popular, easy and cheap to organise), trying out new bikes, putting down turf and playing football. It can also be very effective just to leave the space empty, peaceful and quiet, in contrast to a normal day, if, say, you are trying to make the case to close a busy through route.
