What are some high protein foods for guinea pigs?
Alfalfa hay is very good for weight gain, however it is also pron to bring on bladder stones if used for prolonged use so i would suggest switching back to timothy as soon as the weight has been gained. You can also get a product from your vet called Critical Care. It is a powered formula that us usually fed with a syringe of very sick pigs, however, I have noted they like it so well they will eat it right off a spoon, this product is for putting weight on or just keeping a very sick guinea pig alive. I try to keep it on hand all the time as it has turned several guinea pigs around for me and we did no need to do the vet trip after all. Guinea pigs are prey animals and will hide the fact they are ill until it is in the acute stages, if you have a pig that has lost a lot of weight there is a reason for it and you truly should have it checked by a vet.
