According to the guy who refinished my hardwood floors, there’s only one way to really get hardwood floors clean: First, use a vacuum with a hard floor attachment to get up all the dust and dirt, especially from the cracks. A hard floor attachment should be about 8 inches long with about a half inch slit opening. The part that actually contacts the floor should be a very short-bristled brush, so it won’t mar the floor. Do not use a rotating attachment, or you will mar the floor. In a bucket, put in about a half cup of mild general detergent with a couple gallons of hot water. Do not use products like Murphy’s oil soap or any kind of floor wax, as this leaves an oily or waxy film that will build up over time.
