What are some good xmas gift ideas for young women aged 12 & 13?
This is the kind of question I dream about answering! So . . . down to business. Even though we live in a time where women have achieved a much more equal standing in society, I think it’s still possible for girls -especially that age- to perceive a message that they’re not as good as boys. I once had a very bright young girl (she was probably ten at the time) tell me that she wanted to be the First Lady when she grew up. I asked her why, and she said so that she could live in the Whitehouse. When I asked her why she didn’t just run for President herself, she nearly gave me a heart attack by saying, “Girls can’t be President.” Since then I’ve made it a personal goal to make sure every girl my age or younger knows that she can be whatever she puts her mind to. That having been said, I would recommend giving to those girls books and music that can empower and inspire them.
