The list is a lot longer than the veg and fruit section at your supermarket! Seriously, think about what veg you normally eat and start with those. Then look for a few different ones by recommendation either from friends, cooks, or in magazines. If you are in the UK two of the best mags are Grow Your Own and Kitchen Garden. These are superb, with loads of information, easy ‘How To’ articles and even some recipes and cooking hints. If you want to get technical, try the RHS website, this is THE definitive site for all things horticultural. Finally, from experience, try some of the older varieties from places like Victoriana Nurseries and The Seed Bank, you will be amazed at the difference in flavours and texture compared to anything from the big retailers. You’ll end up with an allotment, just you wait and see! Good luck.
