What are some good undergraduate degrees to get before going to med school?
Well, first, if med school is your goal, then you should be focusing entirely on achieving that goal instead of making all sorts of contingency plans. Yes, many people don’t get into med school, but if you have good grades, good ECs/volunteer experiences, do well on the MCAT, and pick your schools wisely, you’ll have a good chance….and if you’re truly committed to medicine and don’t get in the first time, you spend the following year strengthening your application. That said, you should pick your major based on your interests, not based on a Plan B career option you’re not familiar with. If you enjoy the sciences, there are plenty of science jobs out there, or grad school is an option. If that path doesn’t interest you, you can go on into public health or a related field.
