What are some good things to do in Ahwatukee [Phoenix, AZ]?
Ahwatukee is a housing development near Tempe on the southern end of metro Phoenix. It is pretty much just residential houses and a few strip malls at the major intersections (mostly near I-10). It is certainly not one of the Phoenix areas bigger tourist attractions. The main food and entertainment area is at Ray and I-10 where there is a large movie theater (as well as bookstore and cafes) on the west side of the interstate and several up-scale restuarants (Z-Tejas, Flemings, Tomasos) on the east side. On the northern edge of Ahwahtukee is the Pointe South Mountain Resort – an upscale resort and golf course with its ‘Rustlers Rooste’ steakhouse on a hill overlooking the city. Ahwahtukee is up against the south and eastern edges of South Mountain Park – a large desert mountain park with hiking trails.
