What are some good offensive Martial Art styles?
I’ve dabbled in 4-5 martial arts, but have really stuck with Wing Chun. It’s fairly easy to learn, quick, effective, and to the point. Only 3 hand forms and 2 weapon forms. It’s not for sport, it’s 100% an offensive martial art. It’s dirty (eye gouging, kicks to the knee, etc), and definitely offensive. Krav Maga is also a very offensive martial art. It’s absolutely brutal and 100% real. I’ve taken Aikido, and it’s an amazing art, but not what I would personally consider ‘offensive’ at all. Be aware: there are alot of McDojo fake Krav Maga schools out there, so be sure to verify the instructors lineage and affiliations.
Krav Maga is “aggressive”, not “offensive”, at least at a civilian level. You are taught how to throw various punches and kicks. But most techniques are dealing with “defending” various attacks, usually with a block and a simultaneous counter attack to a vulnerable spot. With a follow up attack to end the encounter, preferably with the opponent KOed or in a position where they can no longer be a threat, so you can get to safety. Krav Maga techniques can be brutal, but they do not have to be. The defenses and counter attacks include, but are not limited to, knife, gun and stick defenses, chokes, holds, and striking defenses and the teaching of groundwork. Only in the more advanced Krav Maga are you taught how to go on the offensive and attack. As emphasized by its founder, Imi Sde-Or (Lichtenfeld), the basic premises of Krav Maga are; “Do not get hurt” meaning achieve a high level of proficiency in self defense. However, if you do get hurt, you must know how to absorb the attack and tak
Don’t listen to that guy, Ninjitsu isn’t an effective martial art, I’m a purple belt in BJJ and I tapped out the head master of a Ninjitsu club like it was nothing. Good offensive Martial Arts for a situation you’re describing is definitely Krav Maga, it teaches real situational fighting and it’s utilized by the Israeli Military forces. Hapkido, I wouldn’t know, but Aikido is mainly just throws, like Judo. As I said, out of the ones you listed, I’d certainly go with krav maga.
