What are some good ideas for a science experiment that involves plants?
1.) Effect of (??) on germination rate. Get a bunch of untreated, fast-germinating seeds (basil, broccoli, etc.). Place them between damp paper towels in plastic baggies, making each baggie as similar as possible (same number of seeds, same amount of water, etc). Expose them to various conditions (high/med/low temperature, acid/neutral/base solutions, bright light/dark, germination inhibitor (e.g. Preen)/no germination inhibitor, germination enhancer (gibberellin)/no germination enhancer) etc. Count the number of seeds that have germinated every 12 hours. Compare the germination rates under each condition. 2.) Effect of (???) on growth rate. Same setup as above, but put the fast-growing seeds in vermiculite or potting soil, and measure them every 12 or 24 hours. Test conditions could include light color (red and blue should make the plants grow faster than green light of the same intensity), temperature, available carbon dioxide (make the carbon dioxide in a sealed container by adding
