What are some good brands of Violins for an adult to begin?

Congratulations on your decision to start learning violin. It is a beautiful and versatile instrument. Buy something used. Well-cared-for violins last forever (I’m sure you know the best and most expensive violins are about 300 years old), and used ones barely depreciate. If you buy a nice used instrument and take good care of it, you will be able to sell it for pretty much what you paid for it if you ever want to upgrade… or quit. Brand is not very important for entry-level instruments. You might find a good used one that has aged well, by some obscure maker from a few decades ago, that would be a much better deal than a well-known brand’s entry model. Most used violin shops will let you buy “on approval”, which means you can take it home for a few days or a few weeks to see if you really like it. Use that opportunity to have your teacher or a violin-playing friend give it a try and tell you what they think. Generally, if it is comfortable to play and sounds OK, it is fine to begin
