What are some fun activities for adults with developmental disabilities…?
I was a licensed residential services provider for 15 years. Some of the things that our residents enjoyed: Music – listening, dancing, clapping, playing rhythm instruments. Art – coloring, painting, collages, working with clay Gardening – especially digging in the dirt, but also picking fruits, veggies and flowers, pulling weeds, etc. Pet care – especially petting them, but also feeding and grooming Cooking & food preparation Community outings – bowling, movies, parks, beaches, hikes, shopping, fairs, the zoo Also, we did expect our residents to participate in household chores. While most of us might not think that these are “fun activities.” some of our residents enjoyed certain chores. One really liked vacuuming, and another really enjoyed sweeping the driveway and raking the leaves. And the feeling of making a contribution to the household can be a boost in self-esteem.
