What are some forestry related things you can do to help decrease atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations?
Forests and our use of wood and wood products can make an impact on atmospheric carbon dioxide concentrations. Here are some forestry-related things that you can do to help reduce these carbon dioxide concentrations and their effect on climate change: 1) plant trees and shrubs to increase the forest area; 2) minimize deforestation or the conversion of forest lands to other land uses; 3) replace or offset fossil energy use where appropriate with wood energy and; 4) use wood products where appropriate in place of products such as cement, steel and aluminum which require large amounts of energy or release carbon dioxide in their production. All of these will contribute to making forest ecosystems part of the solution rather than part of the problem. B.E.R.M.
