What are some facts about J.S BaCH?
J. S. Bach was born in 1685 and died in 1750. He was one of the most prolific composers in history – and not only in how much music he wrote! He had 20 children, many of whom went on to become musicians. He is best known for his sacred work. A Lutheran, Bach was a cappel-meister who wrote cantatas, oratorios, masses and hymns. He is also responsible for the system of equal temperament that we use for tuning instruments today. He wasn’t well known in his lifetime – he was but a lowly church musician. In fact, some of his sons were more famous than their father. It wasn’t until the romantic era when Felix Mendehlsonn rediscovered his music and popularized that Bach gained fame.
