What are some exercises to improve balance for spins and leg strength for jumps?
Answer HI Emma: For overall leg strength for jumps I would recommend plyometric exercises (see some of my earlier posts on this question). For balance for spins I would instruct my skaters to skate backwards on one foot (spinning foot) and to lean slightly forward so that their blade is just barely scratching the ice (such as in a scratch spin). They could then practice the positions for a scratch spin while slowly moving backwards in a straight line.
