What are some examples of age discrimination?
The following are examples of age discrimination: • You were passed up for a job because the employer wanted a “younger-looking” person. • A negative job evaluation resulted from “not being flexible” in taking on new projects. • Your employer wanted to keep and/or hire new, younger workers who are paid less. • You were due for a promotion but you weren’t promoted, yet someone younger was hired from outside the company to fill the position in question because your employer “needs some new blood.” • When company layoffs are announced, most of those laid off are older, while younger workers with less seniority, less on-the-job experience and smaller salaries were retained. • Your supervisor made age-related remarks about you (i.e. you are “over-the-hill,” “ancient,” or “a relic.”)while giving you notice of termination.
