You can still have an “education” without going to college. Electricians and mechanics don’t necessarily have college degrees, but they can make decent money. Only about 1/3 of Americans hold one or more degrees, though about half have had some college, so most jobs don’t absolutely require a college degree. However, even if you aren’t very good at school or aren’t very smart, a degree could mean the difference between a pleasant middle class life and living paycheck to paycheck in a bad neighborhood. There are a lot of schools, like community colleges or local 4-year colleges that will help you get your degree, and for many, just having a high school diploma will get you in. Cosmetology school is also another option, that doesn’t require much more than the effort and a few thousand dollars.
