Sadly people today think slavery ended after the Civil War. It did in the United States, at least it was illegal. There still slavery happening but it will be prosecuted if caught it just isn’t a national institution and most people won’t tolerate it. Up until then slavery was legal. State laws gave “rights” to white land owners to have slaves. This was mostly against African Americans but there were other races that were forced as slaves in America. (Early America didn’t think non-whites were human…man, that is hard to say) Today, many women and young girls are forced into slavery as part of a sex trade. It is awful. (The above was awful too.)
