Obesity is a weight greater than what is considered healthy. The body mass index is a calculation using height and weight to determine obesity. A BMI greater than 30 is obese. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, about 1/3 of Americans are obese. There are a number of reasons for the obesity epidemic. One reason is an energy imbalance. Americans are eating too many calories and not getting enough exercise. There are a number of diets designed to help change the imbalance.
