What are some dances originated from Brazil?
Hi, THE dance of Brasil is the samba. I’ve traveled to Brasil and I was amazed that my North American Ballroom Latin-style samba is nothing like what the brasilian people dance in clubs. Other popular latin ballroom dances are cha-cha, rumba, and salsa. I would ask your dance teacher how “pure” she expects you to be in the definition of “from Brasil.” There is also the style of dance featured in the Brasilian Mardi Gras with the barely there bikinis, head-dresses, shaking hips, etc. I know our local Latin dance club in my city performs the Mardi Gras dances year round for various events. It is a very flashy, crowd-pleasing performance. I hope that helps.
