What are some cool adaptations of marine animals?
…….Ted W., Omaha, Nebraska, USA by Lisa Murtaugh, 3/15/98, South Caicos Island Lots of animals down here are specially adapted to fit into their special niches – their place in the habitat. One example is the stingray. Stingrays are specially adapted to feed on the bottom of the ocean floor. Instead of being shaped like most regular fish, they are flattened, with eyes on top of their heads. Instead of normal fish fins, stingrays have “wings” that let them swim through the water. When they lay on the bottom of the ocean, they wiggle their wings a little bit to move the sand around them so it covers their wings. Laying on the ocean floor with their wings mostly covered in sand, the stingrays are hidden from predators. Another cool adaptation is found in the octopus. Octopi are able to change color so they better blend into whatever they are sitting on. If they are sitting on brightly colored coral, they can become more brightly colored; if they are sitting on something dark, they can
