What are some cons on HST (harmonized sales tax) other than price increases in unnesecary things?
One of the things often raised as a negative aspect of the HST is that the provincial government loses the ability to exempt certain items from the tax. For example, in BC under the old PST, bicycles were exempt from PST to encourage their use, ostensibly for the environmental benefits of having fewer vehicles on the road. Under the HST it will not be possible to use the tax code in this way.
