What are some common signs of genital warts?
Genital wart signs include: • Itching or discomfort in the genital area. • Bleeding during intercourse. • Small swollen bumps, either gray or flesh-colored, in the genital area. • Many tiny warts clustered together, sometimes with a cauliflower-like appearance. Sometimes there are no signs of genital warts, but when signs are present, they usually affect these areas: • Men: penis, scrotum, anus. • Women: vulva, perineum, anus, vagina, cervix. • In some cases, genital wart signs have even been reported on the thigh or groin area. Genital warts are one of the most common Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), and are caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus). Though there are 100 different strains of HPV, most signs of genital warts are due to strains 6 and 11. One thing to keep in mind about genital warts is that the absence of genital warts or the signs of genital warts is not a guarantee against infection.
