try household lye, and rolled up bits of aluminum foil, in a soda pop bottle with a little bit of water. Put a baloon on the soda pop bottle and you will have captured HYDROGEN!!! Attach a fuse to the baloon, (it floats!) and light it and let it go. KABOOM! Just dont try to make too much at once or you will be very sorry! Oh yeah, if the bottle blows up because you were too greedy for hydrogen, the lye will blind you and eat your flesh, so it is a really fun explosion. We used to use a long fuse taped to the baloon with a firecracker halfway, then you let go of the baloon, it flies away, and then drops a lit firecracker on the neighbors! YAY! Now, Another fun mixture! Iodine crystals wetted with pure liquid ammonia make for a nice happy fun day enjoying chemistry. When the crystals dry out, just look at them wrong and BOOM!!! you are blown to bits!!! Seriously, just touch the dry crystals and you are in for a big bang. If you make more than a few crumbs of this and actually let it dry
