What are some characteristics of the victorian society?
Victorian society had strict rules about morality, sex was taboo, people weren’t to talk about it or even hug & kiss in public, women had to wear ‘big clothes’ covering all their skin except their faces. Queen Victoria’s husband died way too soon, and she was in mourning most of her long life, always wearing black dresses, and a lot of fashion and styles included dark colours and black clothes for much of the public, although women could wear other colours and white too, but black or dark colours were “in” then, including furniture, wall panelling, picture frames around picture of Queen Victoria etc…Also, discipline and self-discipline were THE RULE, as there was a world-wide empire to rule and manage, and the industrial revolution was accelerating massively. People worked long hard hours, like 12 hours every day except Sunday.
