What are some characteristics of a good PRNG?
A good PRNG should produce a sequence of numbers that is unpredictable. You might ask how you measure this unpredictability. Here are some characteristics of a good random sequence of numbers. • Long period. The generator should take a long time to repeat. • Uniform distribution. Every number or range of numbers should be equally likely. (Doesn’t apply for generators designed to have other distributions.) • Low correlation between nearby numbers. Looking at a small set of the sequence should not make it easier to predict the next number.
