What are some biblical allusions in song lyrics and art?
Sting’s song “All This Time” has allusions to the Bible. In the song, the singer’s father has died, (I think Sting’s father had passed away shortly before he wrote the song) and two priests show up to lead the final rites. I’m not completely sure what Sting was trying to say, except that he was taking some consolation in the idea that his father would have found the whole thing as ridiculous as he did: “Blessed are the poor, for they shall inherit the earth Better to be poor than a fat man in the eye of a needle And as these words were spoken I swore I hear The old man laughing ‘What good is a used up world and how could it be Worth having'” My favorite line is the last one: “Men go crazy in congregations, they only get better one by one.
