What are some arguments against the death penalty other than the possibility of an innocent person being executed?
First and foremost, what you’ve already mentioned. It has happened. Secondly cost. There are a number of states that are now taking the death penalty off the books because somebody finally figured out that it DOES cost more to execute someone than to imprison them for the rest of their lives. I dunno why it took so long to figure that one out. Most death row inmates sit there for a decade while appeals are processed back and forth. Lawyers and courts are expensive. Then there’s that cost of keeping them on death row. Special facilities, special security and so on.
