What are some applications for a bar code reader?
There are two main categories of applications for the BCR. The first is product or part sorting. In this case, the BCR reads bar codes on parts as they come by, and decides whether the parts are ‘good’ or ‘bad’. The second application deals with grading bar codes after they are made. In this case, the BCR is downstream from a device that is actively marking bar codes onto parts. The BCR ensures the bar codes themselves are of sufficient quality to be read further downstream in the process. If the printer’s ink is running low, affecting the bar code’s black/white contrast, the BCR can stop the line before any useless or unreadable bar codes are made.
