What are some after school activities I could do to help me get noticed by colleges?
Do something you’ll be good at. All serious candidates will have spent hours and hours on some extracurricular or another- whether it’s sports, a job, volunteering, the newspaper, or some combination. To stand out, you need to be very, very good at what you to. Pick a few activities you’re passionate about and that have opportunities for leadership and awards/honors. Colleges want students who are both well-rounded and have specific and obvious talent. They want someone who will be able to do well on campus, but will also be able to fill a niche on campus. Be well-rounded in your classes- take a math, science, social science, English, and foreign language every year- be brilliant in your extracurricular. Show off your athletic prowess or your compassionate nature or your scientific curiosity or your entrepreneurship and become involved in something that will reflect that characteristic. But remember- college admissions are becoming increasingly competitive. There’s no surefire activity
