With PoE + the higher power available allows users to power a larger array of products, products that original PoE standard 802.3af could not support such as WiMAX transmitters, high powered Access points, pan-tilt-zoom cameras, videophones and thin clients. It also provides a new mechanism for communicating power capability and requirements using the 802.1ab Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP). This new protocol addition allows PoE+ switches to deliver power more efficiently and thereby provide power to more devices for a given power supply capacity.
