What are Solaris Zones and Logical Domains? Why do I need Ops Center to manage them?
Solaris Zones is a free virtualization technology available in the Solaris 10 Operating System and later. Due to its design, Zones are one of the most efficient implementations of virtualized operating systems. Through the use of a single running kernel across all the virtual machines, Zones allows for gradual resource control and management abilities. Logical Domains (LDoms) is a free virtualization technology available in all Sun SPARC CMT platforms. It is a layer-one hypervisor that allows for virtual partitioning of machine resources for running completely separate kernels of operating systems. The LDom hypervisor allows for the best machine device utilization from virtual guest machines.
