What are sodium benzoate and potassium sorbate?
Both ingredients are needed to prevent spoilage. Potassium sorbate, is a naturally occurring preservative. In fact, the aloe plant itself produces small amounts of potassium sorbate, although not enough to stop the leaves from deteriorating after harvest. Using potassium sorbate to inhibit mold formation in ALOEGOLD is a matter of simply increasing the amount that is produced by the aloe plant itself. Sodium benzoate is used to prevent bacteria from contaminating ALOEGOLD. The only other way to inhibit bacteria in aloe is through heat processing, which would destroy many of the aloe solids. ALOEGOLD is processed to delicately preserve the beneficial ingredients.
