What are Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs)?

0

In August 2009, the Australian Government implemented the Renewable Energy Target (RET) Scheme, which is designed to deliver on the Government’s commitment to ensure that 20 per cent of Australia’s electricity supply will come from renewable sources by 2020. The Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator (ORER) administers two schemes under the enhanced Renewable Energy Target (RET) scheme: • The Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES). • The Large-scale Renewable Energy Target (LRET). These schemes came into effect on 1 January 2011. Prior to this date, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) were the primary commodity under the RET. The SRES provides a financial benefit for owners wishing to install eligible solar hot water heaters and heat pumps, and Small Generation Units (SGUs), for example, small-scale solar photovoltaic panels, and wind and hydro power systems. Installation of these units may create Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). For more information on STCs visit the
