What are small grommets used for?
A. Cole: They are used in accordance with hard drives to absorb vibrations. Mike: Those grommets can also be used to deaden vibration on some of your smaller fans that normally are quite loud as well. For example: My video card has a 50x50mm copper heat sink and fan from 2cooltek. The fan was quite loud and wasn’t pleasing me with its noise, but whenever I touched it the noise went away. So I figured out how to fix it. I took a grommet and cut off on of the lips, making it have a longer tube in the middle. (It’s not an exact science so don’t worry about looks.) Then you insert the cut up grommet into the hole in the fan and screw them back down. They only add about 1mm of thickness after they’re secured, so it doesn’t affect the fans screws and they still install pretty easily. 05. Q.
