What are skin tags (cutaneous papilloma)?
A skin tag is a benign growth of skin that protrudes or hangs from the body. Skin tags are a very common condition which occurs more frequently during middle-age and thereafter, however it’s not uncommon for people of any age to develop skin tags. Skin tags most commonly occur in wrinkled skin or fold areas of the body such as the neck, groin area or armpits for example. Another very common site is skin tags on the eyelids or around the eyes. Otherwise know as acrochordon or cutaneous papilloma, skin tags are usually small skin-colored growths that hang or protrude from the skin. It is currently not known what causes skin tags, however a few factors are suspected: skin rubbing together or chaffing, a possible resistance to insulin or the Human Papilloma Virus.
