What are Sinus Allergies?
Sinus allergies are seasonal allergies brought on by pollutants in the air that affect the sinuses. These pollutants generally include things such as pollen, ragweed, dust, pet dander, pollution, and mold, among others. Some people are sensitive to more than one of these pollutants, which can become trapped in the sinus cavities, irritating the lining of the sinuses, and causing sinus allergies. When the lining of the sinuses becomes irritated due to allergies, it becomes swollen and painful, encouraging even more pollutants to become trapped there. Symptoms of sinus allergies are similar to symptoms from any other type of seasonal allergies. They may include a runny or congested nose, itchy, watery eyes, sneezing, and coughing caused by a dry or scratchy throat. Sinus allergies are typically accompanied by pain and pressure in the sinuses, which may appear in the front of the face and on the forehead, as well as around the nose.
