What Are Shrinky Dinks?
To my surprise, and after an hour of searching, I couldn’t find out exactly what makes the Shrinky Dink shrink. In essence a Shrinky Dink sheet is a clear (although some are opaque) plastic page that can be drawn on, painted, colored or airbrushed. Once the design is completed and the edges are trimmed you place it in a toaster over, conventional oven and bake the pieces until they are flat. That’s the basics – more on each step in a minute. The blanks sheets are slick so if you are going to use paints or rubber stamps to create a design use a little sand paper on the surface – this gives the paint and ink something to cling to. If using colored pencils or markers please make sure there are no areas of heavy concentration – once you shrink the plastic it will be evident and look a little funny.
