What are Self-Diagnostic Fluorescent Emergency Ballasts?
The self-diagnostic fluorescent emergency ballasts are equipped with a self-diagnostic microcontroller that continuallymonitors the ballast s emergency readiness. At this time, only the S60FSD and the S44CSD have this capability. All features of the S60F (e.g., lamp operation, lumen output and physical size) areincorporated into the S60FSD. However, this is NOT true with the S42C and the S44CSD. Please refer to the Specification Sheet for this information. The S60FSD and the S44CSD automatically test themselves for 30 seconds every 30 days and for 90 minutes once ayear, similar to the schedule established by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Life Safety Code® (LSC). This testing is important because it helps to ensure proper emergency ballast operation in the event of a power failure.
