What Are Screws, Nuts and Bolts?
Screws: Screws are made for many different applications. They are made for use on wood, sheet metal, drywall, concrete, and general purpose. They can be coated and rated for outdoor use. Screws have a pointed tip for installation and will basically “drill” their way into the material. Screws are a much better solution than nails in many applications as they will not pull or work their way loose. Screws are also available with a self-tapping tip for metal applications. This type of screw is wonderful as you can start with a small pilot hole and the screw will “drill” itself to the correct size. Screw heads are normally designed for flat head or Phillips head screwdrivers but can also be found with tamper resistant heads. These heads may be made for an Allen wrench, toric or other driver style and are designed to prevent “tampering” by individuals.
