WHAT ARE SCREEN CHARGES OR SET-UP CHARGES?
In screen printing the shirts or items are printed using a process using screens – a mesh fabric stretched on a frame with artwork burned into a solution dried on the fabric. Ink is then pushed through the open spaces in the mesh to apply the print to the item, being a shirt or a bag or a hat or a vinyl decal. Screen charges apply to each screen used for a project. There is one screen needed for each color used in a project. A one color job needs one screen, a six color job needs six separate screens – one for each color. Each screen needs to be aligned to the other to get the artwork to work out correctly on the garment. This take s a lot of time, especially with multiple screen jobs. Therefore, there is always a set-up or screen charge for any screen printing job.
