What are scientific names better to use than common names of organism?
Scientific names are very specific, they tell the genus and the species of the organism. They are the same in every language in the world. Or rather, they are Latin and are accepted in every language in the world. Common names are less precise. There are, in fact, a lot more organisms than there are common names. So a lot of them have only the scientific names. Sometimes the same common name is used for different species. For instance, the name “potato bug” is used for several species of the genus stenopelmatus (Jerusalem cricket), as well as Leptinotarsa decemlineata, also called the Colorado beetle; and also, in some regions, to a number of terrestrial isopods. That would never work for a scientist. Every species needs its own name, one that will be recognized by every other scientist.
