What Are Scalp Scabs?
Scalp scabs are usually caused by severe dandruff, a form of psoriasis or dermatitis. Recurring scabs can cause you to lose your hair if the scabs are large. The hair loss may be temporary, but has been known to be permanent on occasion. One of the challenges of treating scalp scabs is letting them heal. They usually will itch quite fiercely and most people will scratch at them when they are not noticing what they are doing. Combs and brushes also tend to catch on the scabs and pull them loose before they are fully healed. The problem with scabs that appear on your scalp is that your scalp is an inherently oily and dirty area. Not all scabs can be prevented by keeping your hair and scalp in good condition, but many can. Even if you can’t prevent them all together, treating your scalp can reduce the severity and frequency of the scabs.
