What are scaffolding boards made of?
Scaffold boards are most commonly made from untreated timber from a variety of approved whitewoods and redwoods. They have to be checked visually or mechanically for knots and other defects that would compromise their strength. Modern scaffold boards can be made of laminated layers of plywood that go through a series of special treatments and the end result is typically stronger and more resistant to damage from chemicals and fire. Plastic boards are also available and they are made from a recyclable polymer composite.
