What are salary structures and why are they changing?

0

Currently, Georgia Tech has one job/salary structure for classified staff. What this means is that under the current system, all employees are looked at, from a pay perspective, as if they are the same. So, for example, an Accountant is viewed the same as if he/she were an IT person. Under the new system, Georgia Tech’s large and diverse workforce will be segmented into multiple salary grade structures. When jobs are grouped by function, it provides a framework for career movement for employees. It also allows for easier adjustments if the market dictates changes in a certain profession. For example, when Y2K occurred, Tech could not respond fast enough to recruit people with COBOL skills.
