What are Rutile type of MMAW electrodes?
The difficulty encountered when trying to weld with bare wires is that the melted metal in the arc and work piece molten crater is exposed to the atmosphere causing the metal to oxidise leading to loss of ductility. In addition nitrogen pick-up causes embrittlement. The slag formed during welding is viscous and quick freezing and this renders the electrode particularly suitable for welding in the vertical and overhead positions. This is the most popular type in most countries and is described as the general purpose mild steel electrode.
