What are run-flat tyres?

0

Run-flats are an increasingly popular type of tyre. If you have a puncture on your journey or if the tyre deflates, a run-flat still supports the vehicle weight, so you can travel about another 50 miles. Tyresafe advises they shouldn’t be used without pressure monitoring, to alert you of a deflation. It also warns against use when towing (they’re designed only to support the vehicle weight). If you buy a car fitted with run-flats (also known as self-supporting tyres) you could in theory later fit standard models. Don’t mix up the two types as they perform differently and this may upset your car’s handling.
