A5: Economic Expectations The economys bad recession started in 2007, but now has started to rebound and recent information suggests that the pace of economic contraction has slowed. Earnings growth has diminished for most companies due to the recession, but due to cost cutting in dividends and human resources net income has not been that bad. The Fed has kept its target rate at nearly zero to battle the slump in our economy. Furthermore, the Fed has expanded its lending and securities purchase programs as it seeks to use every option to keep the U.S. out of a further recession and not let stagflation creep in.
